Vietnam to Raise Expenses for Scientific Researches to Boost Education
Vietnam will raise expenses for scientific researches period 2011-2015 in an effort to boost the local education, state media reported Oct 28. Deputy Minister of Education and Training said at a meeting held in Hanoi Oct 27 that the country should give more cares to scientific researches which have somewhat been ignored by local intellectuals. The rising number of students has hindered intellectuals from researching but teaching, Quy said. Vietnamese students rose 13 times from 133,000 to 1.7 million during 1987-2009 while the number of professors and associate professors tripled during the period, Quy noted. Lecturers have been somehow forced to give lessons but not scientific researches, Quy said, adding that many research works remain theoretic. Local experts have warned the country of plagiarism in which part of researchers intently copy rather than do by themselves. (Ha Noi Moi - New Hanoi Oct 28 p5)
