Vietnam Province OKs $2M Oxfam Hong Kong-funded Poverty Reduction Project
Vietnam’s central province of Quang Tri authorities have approved a $2 million project funded by Oxfam Hong Kong to help reduce poverty in three districts between 2010 and 2013, the Nong Nghiep Viet Nam newspaper reported Feb. 25. The project aims to help poor people in three districts of Dakrong, Huong Hoa and Hai Lang overcome consequences of wartime bombs and mines and improve living conditions for the locals. As of mid-2008, more than 90,000 people in the province got benefit from Oxfam Hong Kong’s projects. Since 1997, Oxfam Hong Kong started supporting sustainable livelihoods approaches for the needy people in Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Tri provinces, especially for women and ethnic minorities.
