Vietnam to Inspect Firms for Environmental Violations in Four Southern Localities
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will cooperate with authorities of Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces of Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau to inspect firms for environmental pollution in July. The inspection is in line with the government’s decision on removing polluted businesses, the Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper reported June 15. The ministry and local authorities will start the inspection on firms located along Dong Nai River which once suffered from untreated wastewater by Vedan Vietnam, a Taiwan-invested monosodium glutamate. In April, Vietnamese authorities uncovered another Taiwanese firm namely Tung Kuang Industrial JSC discharged waste water directly to Gie River in the northern province of Hai Duong.
