Vietnam to Host International Dialogue on Corruption Prevention in Education Mid-2010

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong has approved the hosting the seventh international dialogue on corruption prevention in the education sector by the middle of this year. At the event, the National Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption is expected to inform foreign sponsors of prospects in the work against corruption in the educational sector as well as the trial of outstanding cases, the Vietnamese Government said on its website Mar 30. The content of the United Nations Convention against Corruption and the national strategy on the prevention of corruption until 2020 will also be mentioned, it added. In 2009, the sixth dialogue on anti-corruption took place in November with the theme of prevention of corruption in the medical area. Vietnamese authorities detected 243 corruption cases with 520 involvers between Oct 2008 and Oct 2009, which caused loss of estimated VND700 billion ($39.2 million).
