Vietnam Hanoi Oks $40.2M Domestic Waste Treatment Plant

Authorities of Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi Sept 15 approved a $40.2-million project to build a domestic waste treatment plant in Soc Son district this year. The 15-hectare facility will be built under the form of build-operate-transfer (BOT) in Nam Son waste treatment complex, the Cong An Nhan Dan newspaper reported Sept 16. Once completed in 2011, the plant with a treatment capacity of 2,000 tons per day will covert waste into compost fertilizers and recycled materials, aiming to reduce over 60% of the volume of waste buried in Hanoi a day. In late July, Hanoi authorities also gave a nod to a project worth VND600 billion to construct a wastewater treatment station with a daily capacity of 15,000 cubic meters in Tay Ho district. Residents, companies and hospitals in the city discharge nearly 458,000 cubic meters of wastewater a day, of which 41% is domestic wastewater, 57% industrial wastewater and 2% medical wastewater.
