Vietnam Education Sector Gets $1.36B in ODA-Ministry
Vietnam’s education and training sector received VND26 trillion ($1.36 billion) in official development assistance (ODA) between 1998 and 2009, said the Ministry of Education and Training. Of that sum, more than 40% was invested in the local university education, and the remaining in other education levels, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said April 6, citing the MPI. The country attracted 121 foreign direct investment (FDI) educational projects totaling $253.49 million during the period, the ministry said, adding 29 private universities and 27 private colleges were established and upgraded with a total capitalization of more than VND1.5 trillion. Vietnam now has 376 universities and colleges. It targets to have one university placed among the world’s top 200 universities by 2020.
