Vietnam to Complete 5M Hectare Forestation Program in 2011
Cities and provinces in Vietnam will adjust forestation plans in an effort to complete the national program to grow five million hectares of forests in 2011, the Ha Noi Moi newspaper reported. The move came after a directive by the Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung requesting the localities to make plans on forestation and to adapt the salinity intrusion and climate change affects. The Department of Forest Protection earlier said that the country will have to grow 34,570 hectares of forests to complete the program which started from 1991. But localities grew only 587 hectares in the first quarter.
