Vietnam Builds Houses for 65,000 Rural Poor Families in Jan-Jun

Vietnam built houses for 65,000 poor households in rural areas in the first six months of this year, the Phap Luat Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh newspaper reported July 26, citing a report by the Ministry of Construction. Each house with the areas of between 32-40 square meters is valued at VND20-VND60 million, the report indicated. However, the ministry said that some provinces have been carrying out slowly the assistance to help build houses for the needy people, including Phu Yen, Quang Nam, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Tri, Ha Nam and Bac Ninh provinces.
“Vietnam is among the lowest-income Asian nations with GDP per capita of less than $2,000,” WB Vice President for East Asia and Pacific region James Adams said.
The Southeast Asian country aims to reduce the number of poor households to less than 9.5% this year from 11% in 2009.
