Vietnam Backs UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development
Vietnam has affirmed its strong commitment to the UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014), said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Thanh Son at a conference in Hanoi Mar. 23. He welcomed the UN initiative and confirmed Vietnam’s strong determination to continue taking an active part in plans of action within the framework of the Decade to meet the goal of sustainable development, the Voice of Vietnam Radio said Mar 23, citing Son. The diplomat said his country has adopted its plan of action on education for sustainable development in the 2010-2014 period and it hopes to share information and cooperate closely with the parties to bring it to life. Vietnam has recorded vibrant achievements, especially in poverty reduction since it carried out the Doi Moi (Renewal) process in 1986. It has been lifted out of the list of underdeveloped nations by the United Nations.
