U.S. Expert Announces 3 Scenarios on Climate Change in Vietnam

Director of the Department of Global Ecology at the Carnegie Institution of Washington Christopher Field has publicized three scenarios on climate change in Vietnam, the Tien phong newspaper reported Mar. 26. Christopher Field released the scenarios at a press briefing after he attended an international seminar on measures to mitigate risks of natural disasters and climate change in Hanoi on Mar. 22-25.
Firstly, Vietnam will likely be hurt by seawater rises as the Southeast Asian country boasts a more than 3,000-km coastline and most of its population and economic sectors are scattering along.
Secondly, as a result, hot snaps will likely prolong and affect crops as well as worsen the air pollution in the country.
Thirdly, the weather will be extreme with more heat snaps and floods.
Associate Professor-PhD Tran Thuc, dean of the Institute of Hydrometeorology and Environmental Science said that Vietnam will face severe droughts this year and more floods next year.
