U.K. Challenge to Grant $53,000 for Vietnam to Cope with Climate Change

Challenge to Change, a British non-governmental organization, will grant $53,000 to two projects to help fishermen in Vietnam’s central city of Danang to cope with climate change, the Tien phong newspaper reported Jan. 28. The projects are aimed at providing shelters for boats to harbor in stormy weather, planting 4.3 hectares of forest and improving awareness of locals of natural disasters prevention and climate change adaptation. The two projects are expected to be implemented within five months, the newspaper added. Vietnam is listed among five hardest-hit by climate change countries. If sea levels rise by one meter, 38% of the country’s delta and coastal areas will be submerged, causing a serious impact on the life, society and food security of Vietnam as well as the world.
