Southern Vietnam Reports 1,750 Dengue Fever Patients Last Week
Vietnam’s southern provinces recorded 1,750 more people contracting dengue fever last week, up nearly 6% from the previous week. Of the total, Ben Tre took the lead with more than 300 patients, following by An Giang with 200 ones, the Phap Luat Vietnamnewspaper reported Aug 2. The disease has affected between 800-1,000 people in the Mekong Delta provinces of Dong Thap, Tra Vinh and Kien Giang since early this year. The central province of Thua Thien-Hue has confirmed over 620 dengue fever patients since the beginning of the year including two deaths while the disease has also attacked nearly 500 people in Hanoi during the period. The number of dengue fever patients is likely to rise in the forthcoming months of rainy season, especially in Sept, health experts noted. Dengue fever affected 22,700 people in provinces and cities nationwide between January and July, the General Statistics Office said.
