More Foreign Firm Found Discharging Untreated Wastewater in Vietnam

Vietnamese authorities Oct 26 caught red-handed India’s Saitex International Co., Ltd of discharging untreated wastewater into the environment, the Cong An Nhan Dan newspaper reported Oct 28. Saitex’s untreated wastewater was dumped into the Saigon River basin in Ho Chi Minh City with a daily volume of 600 cubic meters. An official of the company blamed out-of-order pumps of the wastewater treatment system to the wrongdoings. Saitex specializes in garment products for exporting to the U.S. and European markets with a monthly capacity of 180,000 products. A series of domestic and foreign companies have been detected to discharge untreated wastewater into environment in recent years, with the latest polluter of Taiwan’s Fotai Enterprise Corporation Ltd in the southern province of Binh Duong. As many as six Taiwanese firms have been found dumping untreated wastewater in Vietnam, including Vedan Vietnam in the southern province of Dong Nai, Tungkuang Industrial Joint Stock Company in the northern province of Hai Duong, Jorn Technology Co., Ltd and Taung Liang Industry Co., Ltd in Binh Duong.
