Lao Cai Province: Poor Farmers Provided with Reproductive Cows

The provincial Red Cross of the northern province of Lao Cai June 12 donated nearly 20 high-quality reproductive cows to poor farmers in three communes of Thanh Binh, Nam Chay and Ban Sen in Muong Khuong district. Nguyen Thi Minh Hai, head of the provincial Red Cross, said that this is the result of the “cow bank” project under the program “Joining hands for poor people in border areas” launched by the Vietnamese Red Cross. Aside from the VND500 million given in the assistance by the Vietnam Red Cross, Lao Cai province contributes another VND200 million to donate another 100 reproductive cows to poor farmers. Their calves are expected to help these poor families escape poverty. Muong Khuong is one of the three poor districts in Lao Cai province listed in the Government’s program on sustainable and rapid poverty reduction.
