JICA to Fund $3.1M to Help Vietnam Control Greenhouse Gas Emission
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will fund $3.1 million for a project to control greenhouse gas emission in Vietnam starting Sept. The Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the JICA have signed an agreement on the aid in Hanoi, the Vietnam Environment Administration said on its website July 7. The three-year project is aimed to enhance Vietnam’s capability in collecting and synthesizing data on greenhouse gas control periodically and systematically. Under the project, the Japanese side will send its experts to Vietnam to guide and transfer technologies and will welcome number of Vietnamese staff to Japan for training. Greenhouse gas inventory is named among important factors in adapting to climate change, experts said. Earlier, the JICA also provide $110 million for a support program to respond to climate change (SP-RCC) in Vietnam. Vietnam is listed among five hardest-hit countries by climate change. If sea level rises one meter, 5% of Vietnam’s land, 11% of its population and 7% of its agricultural land would be affected with the loss estimated at 10% of GDP.
