Japan to Grant $1M to Preserve Vietnam Historical Relic
Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi and the Japan Trust Fund have signed a deal to grant $1.1 million to preserve Thang Long ancient citadel in a bid to prepare for nomination to the UNESCO’s Cultural Heritage, the government said on its website Jan. 21. The project will focus on researches of archaeology, architecture, climate and soil at the relic site which lasted for more than 1,000 years, the government said. The project is estimated to put into operation in 2013. In 2006, the Japan Trust Fund granted $162,494 for preservation of Hue royal music which was recognized as intangible cultural heritage by the UNESCO in 2003.
