Hong Kong Group Donates $1M for Health, Education Projects in Vietnam
Hong Kong-based Sun Wah Group has granted $1 million for projects of health, education and art in Vietnam. Of the total, $700,000 will be spent for health projects, particularly community healthcare, and the rest for education and art, the Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper reported Oct 14. Officials from the group’s Sun Wah Fund (SWF) and the health ministry signed an agreement on the aid in Hanoi in late Aug. The education projects aim to improve foreign language skills for teachers, build schools in rural and remote areas, grant scholarships to Vietnamese students in China, and to provide vocational training courses for handicapped children. This is the second time the group has funded for Vietnam’s social projects, SWF’s General Director Jonathan Choi said, adding that the funding is expected to bring effective outcomes for the society. Set up in 1957, Sun Wah Group has to date had more than 100 affiliates in Hong Kong, Macau, Southeast Asia, Canada, Europe, the U.S. and Australia, mainly engaging in foodstuff and seafood, real estate, financial services, infrastructure, technology and media.
