HCM City Starts Building $44.37M Water Supply System for Can Gio District

Ho Chi Minh City kicked off the construction of a clean water supply system with a total investment of VND820 billion ($44.37 million) for Can Gio district on Jan. 26. The 42-kilometer pipeline system that will have a daily capacity of 44,000 cubic meters is slated for completion late this year, the Tien phong newspaper reported Jan. 26. The capacity of the system is expected to rise to 88,000 cubic meters between 2015 and 2025, the newspaper added. Currently, 83% of households in HCM City get access to clean water. The city plans to raise prices of clean water by 50% from March and hike 10% each year from 2011 to 2013.
