Hanoi University Starts Building $787,000 Student Dorm
Hanoi National University in the capital city of Vietnam has begun to build a student dormitory worth VND15 billion (over $787,000) in an effort to provide more accommodations for local students. Covering an area of 2,279 square meters in Thanh Xuan district, the six-storey building will accommodate hundreds of students once completed, the Ha Noi Moi newspaper reported Jul 27, giving no detail about the construction schedule. The capital is part of the total sum of VND625 billion allocated to Hanoi by the government to carry out nine student dormitory projects this year. Students in the city are complaining about unimaginable increases of accommodation rental rates. It is estimated that room owners raise rents three times a year on average. Many students even cannot find a room to rent. Currently, Hanoi has 96 universities and colleges, taking the lead among localities in Vietnam. It will welcome between 700,000 and 750,000 students in 2020, accounting for 45%-50% of the total number of students in the Red River Delta region.
