Hanoi to Invest $52.36M to Build 24 Schools in 2010-2011

Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi will spend VND1 trillion ($52.36 million) on building 24 schools in the 2010-2011 academic year in an effort to provide better learning environment for local students, said the municipal Department of Education and Training. Of the total sum, VND131.9 billion will be used to build ten preschools and the last for construction of three high schools, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported Jul 29. Currently, Hanoi has more than 679 preschools, of which 271 meet national standards. The city also has 96 universities and colleges, taking the lead among localities in Vietnam.  It is expected to welcome between 700,000 and 750,000 students in 2020, accounting for 45%-50% of the total number of students in the Red River Delta region.
