German NGO Selects Vietnam to Build $10M Oasis for Children

The 5H Children’s Oasis E.V (5H), a German non-governmental organization, has selected Vietnam’s central province of Quang Binh to build an international children oasis worth $10 million, state media reported. The 100-hectare oasis including parks, study areas, sports areas and trade centers in the province’s capital city of Dong Hoi, is expected to be home to 200 orphans and helpless children once it put into operation in 2015, said Huber Michael, head of 5H. Set up in February 2009, the German organization focuses on providing healthcare and education to orphans and poor children worldwide. Dong Hoi oasis is its first project to date. Quang Binh, one of six Vietnam’s central provinces having the largest volume of bombs and explosive materials after the Vietnam War, remains 25% of poor households and around 4,000 children working in hard conditions.
