France Helps Vietnam Develop Nuclear Power
French groups operating in the nuclear power industry on May 28 organized a conference to share their experience in developing nuclear power with Vietnam, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) said on its website May 31. French Ambassador to Vietnam Jean-Francois Girault, Vietnamese Deputy Minster of Science and Technology Le Dinh Tien, the MoIT Minister Do Huu Hao and Training Director of French Atomic Energy Commission Claude Guet joined the conference. At the conference, French experts shared their experience in selecting locations, applying technologies, building, operating and developing nuclear power plants, which are expected to help Vietnam in building its first plant in 2014. Last November, Vietnam’s national assembly, the country’s highest legislative body, approved construction of two nuclear power plants with a combined capacity of 4,000 MW in the central province of Ninh Thuan. The country is also seeking suitable locations to build between eight and ten more nuclear power plants through 2030.
