Food Poisoning Attacks 89 People in Gia Lai Province
As many as 89 people in Vietnam’s central highlands province of Gia Lai were hospitalized on Aug 6 due to food poisoning, the Dantri online newspaper reported Aug 7. The victims reportedly suffered from symptoms of headache, vomiting and diarrhea after attending a wedding party in Ia Pech commune of Dak Doa district. Local health taskforces took the samples of food and waste for testing to find the poisoning cause, the newspaper added. Vietnam reported 88 food poisoning cases in the first seven months of this year, killing 32 people and affecting nearly 3,000 others. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that the Southeast Asian country loses VND340 billion ($20 million) a year on the issue.
