Food Poisoning Attacks 250 Vietnamese Workers in S.Korea Firm

More than 250 workers of South Korea’s Dream Mekong Co., Ltd based in Vietnam’s southern province of Tien Giang were hospitalized due to food poisoning July 19, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said July 20. The victims suffered symptoms of stomachache, headache and vomiting after having lunch with tuna and bamboo shoot at the firm’s canteen. Local health taskforces took the food sample for testing to find the poisoning cause, the agency added. In June, Vietnam reported 17 food poisoning cases, with 1,079 affected people including four deaths, down 15%, up 53.27% and down 60% against May, respectively. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that the Southeast Asian country loses VND340 billion ($17.8 million) a year on the issue.
