Ethnic Minority People Continue to Receive More Support

The Government Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs (CEMA) is finalizing projects and implementing incentive policies to improve the living conditions of the ethnic minorities.
2010 is the last year for the Committee to complete its key projects assigned by the Government to provide assistance to ethnic minority people. Under these projects, ethnic minority communities in mountainous and remote areas will receive financial assistance and preferential loans to build houses, access clean water and develop agricultural production.
Thanks to the Government’s assistance programs, mountainous remote areas are undergoing development, and living conditions of the ethnic minorities have improved remarkably. Last year, transport and irrigation networks in these areas were strongly developed, while more than 85% of poor communes received school and electricity. Ethnic minorities have also been provided with better education and healthcare services.
From 2011 to 2020, the Committee will continue to carry out a series of projects to assist these people, including a project to boost socio-economic development in poor communes in remote and border areas. Another project to help 62 of the poorest districts throughout the country escape from poverty and achieve sustainable development is being finalized.
