Dengue Fever Kills 9 Vietnamese in May
Dengue fever attacked 3,388 people in 40 provinces and cities in Vietnam in May, claiming nine lives, the Ministry of Health’s Preventive Health and Environment Department said. Hanoi reported 314 dengue fever patients last month, 3.5 times higher than the same period of last year, the department added. The epidemic disease affected 4,200 people in the central region between Jan and May, up 96% on year, including two fatalities, the Nha Trang City-based Pasteur Institute’s statistics showed. The ministry has urged the municipal and provincial health departments and relevant agencies to take measure to prevent the disease spread. Vietnam has recorded 12,868 dengue fever patients since early this year, including 12 deaths, down 22.6% and 14.29% on year, respectively.
