Dengue Fever Breaks out in Vietnam Central Province
Khanh Hoa province takes the lead Vietnam’s central provinces and cities in the number of dengue fever patients, with 2,170 affected people as of July 7, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported July 15. Despite local health taskforces’ drastic preventive measures, dengue fever has spread its wing to all districts, town and Nha Trang city, Vice Mayor Le Xuan Than said at an urgent meeting on the issue on July 15. The disease is mostly out of control, Than said, adding that the provincial authorities announce the epidemic outbreak in the near future. The province will mobilize all agencies and locals as well as increase investments for the disease prevention from now to the month-end, he noted. Dengue fever affected 4,200 people in the central provinces between Jan and May, up 96% on year, including two deaths, the Nha Trang City-based Pasteur Institute’s statistics showed.
