ADB Pledges $5M for Farm Produce Safety Project in Hanoi

The Asia Development Bank (ADB) will fund $5 million for a $6-million project to improve farm produce safety and develop the biogas sector in Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi through 2015, state media said Nov 2. The Quality and Safety Enhancement of Agricultural Products and Biogas Development Project (QSEAP) is aimed at the sustainable production of vegetables and tea. Providing jobs for the agricultural sector, as well as improving farm workers’ health and productivity, and developing biogas for daily use are also targeted in the five-year project. The project will help zone off areas for organic agricultural production in five communes in Hanoi, build infrastructure for these areas and provide training in safe farming and processing skills to farmers and businesses.
