Action Month for the Poor Launched

The 'Day for the Poor' campaign will be held on October 17 as one event in the Action Month for the Poor which was officially launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee in Hanoi yesterday. Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung; chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Huynh Dam; and representatives from ministries, sectors, businesses and localities attended the event. According to Chairman Huynh Dam, over the past ten years the 'Day for the Poor' has received positive response from ministries, sectors, enterprises, and people of all strata at home and abroad. It has also achieved practical results, contributing to caring for needy people in poor districts and the Party and State’s poverty reduction targets, thus strengthening national unity. The Fund for the Poor has received more than VND5 trillion as donation, and built and repaired over one million houses for the poor. Groups and businesses also donated thousands of billions of Vietnamese dong for social security programmers and social activities to help the poor and flood-hit victims. The VFF leader also called for organizations and individuals, and domestic and foreign enterprises to support the campaign through practical actions, programs and projects. Deputy PM Hung praised the results of the 'Day for the Poor' campaign, stressing that poverty reduction has always been one of major tasks of the Party and State, and it is very important for the country’s socio-political development.
